The Scottish Gallery • Solo Exhibition Encounters • April 2022

“Glassford is a painter who seeks out the edges of landscape, travelling to the most remote and distant corners in search of subject matter. Her travels have taken her to the Outer Hebrides and to the outlying archipelago of St Kilda. A trip to Assynt in November provided further opportunity to engage with the ancient landscape of Scotland’s high northwest. Glassford cherishes her time spent in the wilds of Scotland. Each trip in the outdoors, sketchbook in hand, is a journey of personal revelation, her dialogue with the landscape akin to a meditative response as she absorbs the geography and atmosphere of a particular place.” (The Scottish Gallery)

Tatha Gallery • Solo Exhibition Immerse • June – August 2019

Helen’s solo exhibition Immerse opened on the 21st June 2019 at Tatha Gallery, Newport on Tay, comprising over 45 oil paintings. Immerse was inspired by the artist’s fascination with the sensory experience of landscape. Helen’s paintings describe and convey the forces at play, both physical and psychological, when exposed to the wild and unpredictable personalities of nature. Helen goes in search of the empty places, deserted beaches and rocky outcrops and observes and draws readily in sketchbooks recording and noting the feel of the weather and the sense of the place. Being ever aware of the transient nature of life.
