Personal spaces where gains can often be made: intent, resoluteness, purpose, strength of mind and will.

For Helen, sketchbook work is not solely about gathering and focussing thoughts and moments but allows for the liberating interpretation and recreation of these moments later in the studio. It is a very personal yet tangible way of connecting with and pushing her practice forward. Helen’s sketchbooks could perhaps be seen as a diary and together with the words shown on her Instagram page where the majority of images are posted, it provides an interesting cross platform and dimension to her work. Diaries and sketchbooks are personal spaces where gains can often be made such as intent, resoluteness, purpose, strength of mind and will, although mostly thought to be a private pursuit the artist finds that taking the leap and showing sketches has opened up her practice allowing a greater transparency and freedom without the weighted desire of perfectionism.
